History
The history of firefighting in Wilmot Township began almost 150 years ago. New Hamburg residents, with donated money, purchased a hand pumper in 1858. In 1879, a steam pumper was acquired (This has been preserved today at Doon Heritage Crossroads, in Kitchener).
New Dundee organized a formal fire brigade, equipped with a hand pumper, in 1914 following a major fire. In 1927 a motorized pumper was added.
the first Baden Fire Station
The residents of Baden purchased a hand pumper in the early 1900s. The Baden Fire Brigade debentured $692.92 to puchased a 1926 Model T Ford pumper from the Lorne Tractor Company in Mitchell, Ontario, on January 1, 1927. Baden went on to purchase a 1940 Fargo pumper, a 1956 International pumper and a 1975 International pumper. A 1990 Superior pumper was purchased and is in use today. Residents of Wilmot Township have the unique distinction of having all of their motorized pumpers from Baden since the department was formed.
